It would not fit into my little computer case. I didn’t notice that the ASRock was larger. So I switched to an ASRock 970 Extreme4 motherboard with UEFI BIOS. It appeared that a motherboard using UEFI instead of BIOS would resolve these issues. The latter incapacity caused problems for various maintenance purposes, including drive partitioning. There were two problems: I needed a UEFI system to boot a GPT drive, and the old mobo was unable to boot most programs from a USB jump drive. The effort to do so ran into a problem with my motherboard. It seemed that I would have to partition the drive using GPT instead of MBR. I did not realize that it would exceed a 2TB limit in the old MBR partitioning scheme.
